Tax Asaan – Mobile App for Filing Income Tax Returns

Tax Asaan is a mobile application developed by FBR for individuals to file income tax returns. Filing tax is a legal, social as well as ethical responsibility. There are various benefits reaped by a tax filer than a non-filer. However, the tax filing procedure is highly complex and perplexing that a major part of the Pakistani society stays away from it.

In order to facilitate the taxpayers, FBR had launched a mobile application, Tax Asaan. By using this application, salaried persons can file their taxes sitting at home or in their offices, whenever they want to. FBR claims that Tax Asaan app has been graciously welcomed by the salaried class of the country.

Tax Asaan application can be downloaded on both Android phones as well as Apple’s IOS mobile operating system. In the application, a provision of new e-registration of taxpayer on the tax roll is introduced. After the completion of the registration process, the system generates a user name and a password automatically. The individuals can then login to app and go to the homepage. Furthermore, there is also an option of creating a new wealth statement through the app.

The homepage has several options to choose from including income tax return, sales tax registration, payment and online verification system. By clicking on the income tax return option, a page will open up which shows two options; normal return and salaried return.

You have to select normal return in the case of incomes from any of the sources which include salary, property, capital assets, foreign, agricultural and other sources, whereas you have to select salaried return in case the income received is only from salary and other sources where salary is more than 50% of the total income.

After the selection of the type of income tax the taxpayer has to go through almost 26 pages to fill out the relevant information. The information on these pages is assisted by visuals making the experience user friendly.

Keeping in mind the fact that Tax Asaan App facilitates the taxpayers and makes it convenient for them to pay taxes with a plus point of increasing the overall percentage of people filing the taxes, it has certain technical drawbacks and shortcomings to it. These must be looked into and removed by FBR in order to take the application to reach a larger audience at a much larger scale.
