Sept 02, 2020: Collection of Customs Duty for the Month of August Exceeds Target

According to FBR, the outbreak of the pandemic COVID-19 has caused several administrative obstacles in the collection of revenue and the process has slowed down a bit. However, Pakistan Customs has carried out the task of achieving the revenue target for August 2020, remarkably well. The target for August 2020 was 44.3 billion, although an amount of 45.9 billion was collected under the head of customs duty which is 3% more than the target of this month. In the course of the first two months of the current financial year, Pakistan Customs has collected customs duty equivalent to 93.9 billion against the target of 87.3 billion which is 7.5% more than the target. Despite slow clearance of imported goods at Karachi port, the revenue target has been achieved. This was due to heavy rains and Muharram holidays in the last week of August 2020.
